Get Smart: Theory, River Island & Fortnight Lingerie

I’m on a really smart, simple and classic clothing kick right now.  Likely influenced by the streamlined looks at DKNY and Saint Laurent Paris during the recent fashion weeks, I’ve been wearing my River Island blazer non stop (when Austin weather permits it) and I’ve dug out my smart trousers too.

A couple of weekends ago in Texas I travelled to Lake Buchanan and the weather was cool enough for this outfit, mixing a little lingerie as outerwear with some tailoring. This bralette is from Fortnight who you might remember from one of my Friday lingerie features (here).  I’ll bring you their new collection soon –  I swoon over their bodysuits and slips.

These low slung pants were one of my sample sale finds from New York City.  Oh how I miss those sales – bargains galore.  I find Theory a great place to shop for simple and sophisticated pants and sweaters – these Max C Wool Blend Pants are so flattering because the fabric has a little stretch and the slight flare / great length makes my legs look like they go on for miles.  One potential downside is that I need a very high heel for wearing them.  You could get them taken up if that worries you (watch that this doesn’t affect their perfect flare, mind you).

When I was trying to think of a name for this post I toyed with the idea of ‘smart is sexy’ because I’m really into masculine tailoring with a feminine twist at the moment.  In the end (as you can see) I went with ‘get smart’ – because I don’t think we should ever forget, Blog Reader, the impact of well fitted, tailored clothes.

Wearing: Theory pants; River Island blazer; Bralette, Fortnight Lingerie.
